South Africa’s Cape Town harbour may be glorious, but true duffers love the populous city by two oceans for another reason, its golf courses. There are several. While there are a whopping 10 courses we will visit on our upcoming South Africa Golf and Safari Tour, today we are highlighting the top ranked, and may we say incredible, Pearl Valley Golf & Country Estate. Located a short distance from Cape Town, Pearl Valley has been named the Best Conditioned Golf Course in the Western Cape for 2010, 2011 and 2012 by Golf Digest Magazine, and awarded Compleat Golfer’s Five Star Experience Award for six consecutive years. Here are a few reasons why:
Unparalleled Instruction Opportunities
Pearl Valley Golf & Country Estate has something many new and intermediate duffers will surely appreciate, the Swingfit Academy. For travelers that haven’t heard of Swingfit before, it has more than a handful of seasoned golfers waiting around to help newcomers perfect their respective forms. The school actually trains PGA accredited instructors. So there is never any question as to the value of the school’s programs.
A Giant Golf Cart Full of Pleasures
And whatever golfers learn at the academy, they can try out at the facility’s practice area before hitting the esteemed, 18-hole, Jack Nicklaus course. It has championship tees as well as special options for the ladies. Lockers, changing rooms, spa/fitness services, refreshments and a PGA-staffed pro shop are also on site with a mix of other niceties for overnight guests.
Serene View of a Paleozoic Mountain Range
The course layout is superb by all standards, especially visually. It sits within eyesight of the stunning Simonsberg Mountains. They reputedly stand more than 1300 meters high and stretch from Franschhoek to Stellenbosch. Geologists widely date the mountains’ origins back to the Paleozoic age. They are also part of a larger geological feature known as the Cape Fold Belt. So rock hounds may want to take note of them too.
