"Where Friendships
are Made"
Greetings,
Michael Ho

Happy Fall!

As I was walking through my garage the other day - there they were...my golf clubs mocking me! It's been over a month since I last enjoyed a good round of golf! Actually, it's probably been much longer than that in terms of a "good" round...but that doesn't take away from how much I enjoy getting out with friends and meeting new ones!

I can't wait until February when I will be escorting our group to Vietnam & Cambodia. Since we posted this tour, the one comment I keep hearing is that many people would never have thought of golf in combination with a Vietnam & Cambodia sightseeing tour. The truth is that there are some of the finest golf courses in Asia located in INDOCHINA. We'll golf 8 different courses on this tour and I'm looking forward to playing each one of them and experiencing the incredible sightseeing this region has to offer. If you've been thinking about joining us and would like to know if this tour is for you - give me a call or drop me an email. I'd love to share more about this incredible package with you.

I hope you enjoy the articles in our newsletter this month - be sure to check out our new blog!

If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact me at 403-269-2122 or email:  michael@uniquegolf.net.

Sincerely,

Michael
Vietnam & Cambodia Golf Tour

February 2 - 22, 2012

Vietnam is the eastern most country in the Indochina Peninsula. With a population of over 89 million, it is the 13th most populous country in the World.  Emerging from the various prolonged

military conflicts, Vietnam instituted political and economic reforms resulting in economic growth being one of the highest in the world in the past decade. This has resulted in numerous investments in the tourism infrastructure. Part of these developments are the numerous high quality golf courses that have recently been opened such as Montgomerie Links, and The Dunes Course by Greg Norman. Siem Reap is the most popular tourist destination in Cambodia because of the World Heritage Site designation of Angkor Wat. But to the surprise of many, there are two spectacular golf courses that have just recently opened. Critics have said that given time to mature, these two courses will be among the top courses in Asia.

We're talking to GM's & Pros all over the world!

A few weeks ago Unique Golf Vacations launched a blog on our website featuring (among other things) golf courses you'll find on our upcoming tour packages.

But we didn't just pull information from the course websites (anyone can do that!) We wanted the inside scoop on the best holes to play, how to play them and what is about a particular course that makes it find its way onto a Unique Golf Vacations itinerary?

For instance - How would Angkor Golf Resort (Cambodia) GM, Adam Robertson, recommend you play #2 hole? (His personal favourite by the way!)

Or how about - How does the Director of Golf at the Big Island Country Club (Hawaii) recommend you play hole #18?

Visit our blog

This week, we will be featuring the Sabah Golf and Country Club in Borneo - stay tuned!

Golf Tips on Driving - How to Fix a Golf Slice

How to fix a golf slice is the first of a series of golf tips on driving. All golfers have slice problems at some time in their golfing life, even Tiger Woods, because the rotational movement of the golf swing is unnatural to human physiology, and a slice is a natural result unless you have developed good swing mechanics that enable you to control your clubface at impact.

A Clockwise Spin on the Ball

When you hit the ball, your stance should be pointing straight to the target and your clubface square to a line between the ball and that target. If the clubface is open when it strikes the ball, with the toe further back than the heel from the direction of travel, then it will impart a clockwise spin to the ball that causes the slice. That's because there is more air pressure on the side of a spinning ball that is moving in the direction of travel - the left side with a clockwise spin - and so the ball is gradually pushed right.

Wine Pick of the Month

Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Tawny Port

Taylor Fladgate was established in 1692 and remains a totally independent port house now being run by the seventh generationTaylor Fladgate of the family.  Taylor Fladgate is synonymous with consistently producing excellence with their aged tawny and vintage ports.

Aged Tawny Ports are only 10, 20, 30 or 40 years old as regulated by the Institute of Port Wines from Portugal.  Tawny ports are aged in small oak casks and it's the tawny colour of the port in the glass from which it takes its name.  Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Tawny offers a complex nose of spicy, jammy and nutty aromas with a hint of orange on the finish.  This tawny port is an excellent accompaniment to desserts such a crème brulé and tiramisu.  Or as a dessert on its own, try it slightly chilled which offers a freshness to the fruity notes in the glass.  Enjoy this signature house style from Taylor Fladgate.
